Angie and Marvin’s wedding day can be summed up in one word: perfection. I’m not just talking about the sunny and 69 degree weather we were graced with in May, either. Every single detail that Angie worked so hard dreaming up and creating fell into place. Ever single smile, and tear, and laugh that day showed just how much these two love each other and their families and friends.

Angie & Marvin,
I’ve told you again and again, thank you so much for choosing me to document your amazing day. You are two of the kindest, most gracious, most AWESOME people in the entire world and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you two!
Love,
Shanna

I have a confession. I am COMPLETELY behind on my blogging! We shot Melissa and Derek’s photos back in APRIL and while I posted a sneak peek immediately on Facebook, I’m just now sharing them on here. Derek is the brother to one of my sweetest friends, Alisa, yet this was the first time I met him since he’s been away at med school. I got to meet Melissa last summer at Alisa’s birthday party and I could have sworn they could have been sisters! Their wedding is next month in Dripping Springs and I can’t wait to see how gorgeous Melissa is going to look in her gown. We met up in downtown Roanoke for the first part of their photos and it was perfect. Roanoke is a tiny hidden treasure in the North Fort Worth area that has some of the greatest little restaurants and spots for photos, but is never crowded! Then we went my favorite wooded spot in Westlake for a few yummy golden hour photos…

Alisa warned me that her brother was a bit on the goofy side….love it!

Melissa & Derek-
Best wishes for what I’m sure will be an AMAZING wedding day! I can’t wait to see the photos!
Love,
Shanna

I’m just going to start by saying that I LOVE JENNY! From the first night we met, we just “clicked”. After our first meeting we met again for dinner to go over ideas for engagement photos. We spent about two minutes talking about photos and the rest of the time just talking like old friends. I knew from talking to Jenny that Ryan was a sweet guy, but meeting him in person and seeing the way they interact with each other was really something else. Jenny is a big-city girl from San Antonio and Ryan is a small-town boy from Mineral Wells. She drives her cute little red VW and he’s got his big ol’ truck. She wears high heels and he wears boots. Yet somehow, with all of their differences they end up complimenting each other and the balance is just perfect! For their session we ended up with photos that were a little bit of city, and a little bit of country, too! It was probably the windiest day in the entire history of the world in downtown Dallas so poor Jenny spent most of the day holding her dress down or making sure her hair wasn’t blowing everywhere and yet they both still look absolutely perfect in every photo!

Jenny & Ryan-
Thank you SO much for choosing me to capture these times in your lives. I absolutely cannot wait until October for your wedding! It’s people like you that make me absolutely LOVE my job.
Love,
Shanna

I’ve known Angie since elementary school…you know, back when boys were yucky and Lisa Frank ANYTHING was all the rage! Angie and Marvin met while working at the same grocery school in high school and now, over ten years later, they’re finally making it official!

Angie & Marvin,
I had SO much fun shooting with you two! I am literally counting down the days until your beautiful wedding (12…haha)! Thank you so much for choosing me to be there.
Love,
Shanna

I met Chelsea and Nick the very first night I hung out with Bailey. I had no idea that night that Bailey would become my husband one day, but I definitely knew that Chelsea and Nick were meant for each other. We all sat crammed into a booth at Razzoo’s having a beer and getting to know each other and I can still remember the way Nick looked at Chelsea while she told us cute stories about her son, Andrew. This was nearly three years ago and it’s still fresh on my mind! Fast-forward to April 2, 2011 and Chelsea, Nick, and little Andrew officially became a family. Their wedding venue was one of the most adorable places I’ve ever seen! It was at the Old Bedford School and it provided the perfect backdrop of such a sweet day!

Nick and Andrew’s relationship is probably the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen. Andrew calls him “his Nick” and will tell people things like “tonight I played catch with my Nick”…He LOVES his Nick!

Chelsea and Nick wrote their own vows to say to each other and we all got teary-eyed while hearing what they had written. Nick also wrote vows to say to Andrew, and I suppose after seeing his mommy and his Nick cry, it seemed like the thing to do! There was not a dry eye in the house (not even mine!) when we all witnessed this sweet moment…

Chelsea’s Grandfather wasn’t able to come to the wedding because of a bad fall the week of the wedding, so Nick and Chelsea went straight to him after their wedding. It was so sweet to see how excited he was to see his granddaughter in her wedding gown. He was more than happy to kiss the bride!

Nick and Chelsea,
Thank you both so much for doing me the honor of capturing your wedding day! I love you both dearly!
Love,
Shanna

Christy and JP have been together for 8 years and are tying the knot this October! JP is a musician so it made perfect sense to shoot in my old stomping grounds, Deep Ellum. We actually knew a few of the same people and have all hung out at the same places in Deep Ellum over the years, but had never met!

Christy & JP-
Thank you for being so awesome at our shoot! Christy, I cannot WAIT to photograph you in your gorgeous Maggie gown!

Shelby and Guerin are getting married this June and from what she’s told me about their wedding so far (killer color palette, ridiculously awesome reception venue), I can surely say that the wait just.might.KILL ME! We shot their engagement photos at the McKinney Cottonmill and I swear no matter how many times I shoot there, I will never get tired of it. Even though the bottom floor has been turned into office spaces and the awesome sketchy green couch is gone (tear!), it’s still a one-stop-shop for really awesome photos.

Such a gorgeous couple!

Guerin wanted in on the sassy action, too!

Shelby & Guerin,
Thank you so much for being so fun to shoot with and for choosing me to capture your wedding day! I can’t wait to meet your families and to see how gorgeous the two of you are going to look!
Love,
Shanna

My very best friend in the entire world is getting married in New Orleans this October so she and I went down to check out her amazing venue, Latrobe’s On Royal, last week. The French Quarter is huge so I knew from previous trips that we were going to be doing a TON of walking. I took this as the perfect opportunity to travel light and decided to dust off my trusty little Holga camera for the trip. I never realized how spoiled we’ve gotten in the digital age with the instant gratification you get from viewing a photo a second after you took it! The wait for my film to be processed was absolutely torturous now that I don’t have access to a darkroom anymore. With a Holga, it’s pretty much a gamble every time you click that shutter. You have no control over shutter speed, aperture, or even focusing! Heck, you don’t even really have total control over composition since you can’t look through the actual lens to compose the shot! Plus, it’s plastic and not completely light tight. The back never wants to stay on mine after all these years, so I’ve got it held together with electrical tape. Even still, the light leaks in the most random places creating giant red areas on color film or big black areas on black and white film. If you are a control freak, the Holga is not for you. I feel like the beauty of the Holga is truly appreciated when you can just let go of control, and just focus on make really fun images! So, that’s exactly what I did…
We must have spent two hours walking through this little grave yard in New Roads, Louisiana. I know it may sound weird, but I love reading all the little old lady names on headstones! When I have kids of my own one day, I can see myself looking at old headstones for names instead of baby name books. This particular grave yard had a lot of French names that April had to help me pronounce, so I don’t think I’ll be using any of those names…haha!

We stayed at the super cute W hotel on Chartres Street and it was the best sleep I’ve EVER gotten away from my own bed and puparoos!

St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square:

The next photo is actually a double exposure. It’s a combination of the paintings on the ceiling inside of St. Louis Cathedral, and the gorgeous lamps that were in the lobby of our hotel. I’ll be totally honest and tell you that it was a total accident. With a Holga, you have to manually wind the film after each shot. If you forget, you end up with a double exposure like this one. It’s just another little quirk to embrace when shooting with a Holga!

The azaleas were in full bloom everywhere we went!

This statue of Andrew Jackson is in the middle of Jackson Square, which is directly in front of the St. Louis Cathedral.

This little mama puparoo was so patiently waiting for her owner to come out of a shop. I think I love her!

I just might start bringing along my holga to every shoot and wedding from now on just to see what kind of random treasures I get from it!

Bethany and Nathan got hitched last month in Fort Worth and my goodness does she know how to plan a perfect wedding! Our engagements overlapped by a few months, so we were in the planning stage at the same time for a while. It was so nice to have someone to gab about wedding details with that truly understood how much work (and fun) it could be! That being said, I knew a few details about their wedding before hand, but I was absolutely WOWED when I got to see it all come together! The flowers, the cake, the bridal party, her GORGEOUS Maggie Soterro gown…it was a truly perfect day for a truly perfect couple.

Lucas was the life of the party that night! I swear he knew every dance to every song the D.J. played that night, and then some!
Bethany & Nathan:
Thank you SO MUCH for allowing me to document your gorgeous wedding day. Everything was absolutely perfect and you really made me feel like part of your family. I’m still jealous about Hawaii, though!
Love,
Shanna

Brittani and Mikey are one of the sweetest, most in love couples I’ve ever met. You could see it in their engagement photos, but on their wedding day, it was so much more than that. You could feel it. It’s so sweet to watch how these two care for each other and balance each other. Their wedding was at the Old Red Museum in Dallas and the day could not have been more perfect!

Brittani’s mother, Deborah, etched each bridesmaid’s monogram into the vase holding their bouquet. She also made them personal charms to hang from the bouquets. I would KILL to have even an ounce of her craftiness!

The jeweler who made Brittani and Mikey’s wedding rings was nice enough to loan her jewels to wear on the big day, too!

Brittani and Mikey chose to do a first look before the wedding and it was so sweet to see how excited they both were to see each other for the first time!

One last thing before walking down the isle…

Brittani & Mikey,
Thank you so very much for choosing me to capture such a special day between to of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. I wish you all the best as you start this new chapter of your lives.
Love,
Shanna
